Hello Friends,

I am very new to the world of programming and hence I get lost quite often

I am trying to build a social network site for Dog Lovers and currently I'm reading all kinds of HTML, CSS and Php-MySql tutorials from internet to get a start on developing the proposed site.

Till now I have downloaded the XAMPP server and have configured it with my Windows XP Professional. I have also downloaded the zip format of elgg 1.6.1 so that once I can run it then I can understand the coding of this social network site and this may help me to grasp php-MySql a bit better.

Now my questions are:

1. Being a beginner is my approach right?

2. After configuring XAMPP now in my 'C' Drive I have ''Inetpub'' folder & ''xampp'' folder. I am confused to which is my root folder? So if I wish to store the files of my website to the root folder then where do I save it?

3. How do I start running the elgg 1.6.1 scripts in my Apache Server?

I hope I have been able to make myself clear. I have tons of more questions but I rather start with these small ones.
