Where is the controls palette ?

Post icon  Posted 15 November 2009 - 08:28 AM

Hello,
I am somewhat new to c++ programing so I am using "sams teach yourself visual c++ 6 in 21 days" to lern more about it
I am using Microsoft Visual c++ 6.0 standard edition to build the programs in from the book

I got through day 1 with no problems I learned how to make the first program and how to change the buttons on the dialog screen

Then on day 2 I am supposed to add more buttons from somewhere The book doesn't explain in detail on how to do that
It says
"These and other controls are readily available for use in Visual C++ applications. They can be found on the controls palette in the Dialog Painter editor in the Developer Studio, as shown in Figure 2.1."

This is where I am stuck
Where is the controls palette ?
Where is the dialog painter ?
Where is the developers studio ?

I can't seem to find any of those things
Any help would be appreciated

status1, yeah it is a bit buried in the interface a little. While you are in your dialog application (so you should see your classic dialog forms) go to Tools menu, Customize... and then the toolbars tab. There you will see a checkbox for "Controls". Clicking that and clicking ok will then open up the controls palette so you can see it.

Good luck with the learning. Don't get TOO involved with that since C++ and VC++.NET are both drastically different than VC++ 6. I actually see very few people learning VC++ 6 these days. I would have recommended you learn VC++.NET if you were going to learn Visual C++

Thanks for the reply
I was able to stumble upon it while opening another project
After that when I opened the one I was working on it came up without doing anything
I tried yesterday to add it from the customize menu but it wasn't there. It's hard to add something that doesn't exist I turned on every toolbar and it wasn't there
Anyway I am glad it works now
