Being a Linux enthusiast but working as an IT administrator in an exclusive Windows environment there are times when you get called into action.
Here is a summary of a nice little article I read on InfoWorld that encompasses 10 great FREE tools to make life a little easier.
1. Sysinternals Suite
2. HWinFo32
3. Crap Cleaner
4. Recuva
5. FileZilla
6. Virtual CloneDrive
7. Defraggler
8. ImgBurn
9. 7-Zip
10. VirtualBox
I have used a couple of these personally and found them invaluable.

Nice list. If they didn't list Sysinternals I would have called them incompetent; nice to see it's number one. VMWare, as noted, still puts VirtualBox.
One interesting omission is a net analyzer. Sysinternals has a Tcp viewer, but even that didn't get noted. I'd add Wireshark as a must have. The "Angry IP Scanner" also has it's moments.

Nice list. I hate that I have to move between 5 pages though. Stupid articles.
I love CCleaner.

mmmm, wireshark
I'm quite surprised that Hijackthis isn't on that list.

I completely agree. Wireshark has helped me find failing network hardware on our LAN at my office. Without wireshark, I would have never noticed one of the switches firing off STP (Spanning Tree) packets left and right.
The other items on the list are definitely tried and true. I have used almost all of them personally and swear by them.

With this being one writer's opinions there is no reason we cannot add to the list, any links to these tools would be greatly appreciated.

I'm personally over-impressed by 7zip, as it definitely deserves to be on that list. However, there were quite a few I would have thought that would be on the list, instead of some others. Oh well, everyone has their own opinions.

I've used a bunch of the software listed, with 7-Zip, CCleaner, and VirtualBox being my favorites
I would have included Process Hacker. It's an open source task manager which doesn't suck.
