Hi, I have a problem in Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition with SP1.
I cannot move objects (such as buttons, listboxes, etc) in the Windows Forms Designer by clicking and dragging them with my mouse. This gets really annoying after a while.
However, I can move them with the key pad (up down left right) and by changing the location property. Does anyone know what is going on?
Thanks very much in advance.
Please reply quickly as this is severely impeding my productivity.
Oh and I'm running vista with all the service packs and latest updates, and I don't have any viruses (scanned with MBAM, Spybot and Avast)

It's not vb 2008 thats the problem. Have you tried double clicking on the objects then dragging. If not the see if its allowed with your mouse.

First off, save your project where you are right now. Then close vb.net, open it back up and see what that does. If that doesn't work, then restart your computer. If that doesn't work then I really dont know, but Adamspeight2008 wrote a great tutorial on making the controls with out even using the gui...Tutorial

I've tried restarting etc and I know it's not my mouse - I click and drag using it every day with loads of stuff. Anyway it's made by logitech, so it's not like theyre going to make a mouse without click'n'drag functionality. I can resize controls but not move them.

Its probably a problem with the built in software on the mouse, I had one that did the same thing. When you plug the mouse in, it has built in software that tells the computer what it is, yours is probably messed up. Try a different mouse.

is it wireless? I had a wireless logitech that I had to move farther than usual to get it to register that I was moving a control. For some reason, I don't have the problem since I built my windows 7 machine so it must have been a driver issue in xp and I never got a chance to mess with it.

Hi,
I have the problem at least once a day (also out of memory exception -> large project)
Try closing all the windows and re-opening them. (also restart visual studio)
Try making a new project and then see what happens
If it used to work, maybe re-install visual studio?

Hi
Have you locked the form controls by accident.
This will stop you moving controls with the mouse but you can still change the position in the properties.
Select Format and from the drop down menu select lock controls. If you have, there should be a small padlock symbol in the top left hand corner of the form.
Hope this helps

No... I'm not quite stupid enough to have done that... The problem still stands though after re-install.
