Free Link Exchange

Posted 05 December 2009 - 09:32 AM

Anybody know of some really good free link exchange systems that you've used? I need more links to my site. I've heard of free link exchange systems, but I haven't found one I like yet. Thanks you guys! :D

In my experience link exchange == spam. Either you get bombarded with it, or you end up dishing it out unexpectedly. In fact I've been finding that a lot of really nasty scammers are picking up expired domains that have ads still active in ad campaigns. What's happening is people in link exchanges that are not actively monitoring what ads they are displaying are in fact running ads from malicious sites & their visitors are being infected with rogue software.

The best link exchange system are the ones you initiate. Contact webmasters personally and offer to swap links. Set up a link directory page and this way you are in control of what gets linked and what doesn't.

Here is what I did and I will show you an example.

my one website http://nykcsports.com/links.shtml has a page just for that purpose. The best thing to do is go out to Google and surf around for people who are doing what you do. In my case other sports card dealers, sports memorabilia shops, card collectors, etc.

Craft a nicely written email and contact the web master. Let them know you are interested in exchanging links with their site in order to improve search-ability which will in turn benefit both of you.

Be sure to include your link, a short description and even maybe provide the code for the link.

<a href="link.html" target="_blank">Link here </a> - Description here

This is not necessary but a nice courtesy to offer the webmaster.

Most websites if not all have some sort of contact us page, also be sure to look for link pages because most places are doing this already and have their requirements in place.

It is also important to let them know where they can find there link, and maybe even how it will look on your page.

Sounds good! But why should I contact people doing the same thing as me (web design)? I would be putting links to my competitors if I did that! Is this a good thing? Thanks! :D

I did it with card collectors and sports stores.

Didn't hurt my business none, if anything it helped because I would get business from those sites as well.

As for your case same thing, link to some SEO bloggers, web developers blogs, try to link up with industry related sites. Javascript developers, HTML developers. You aren't competing with someone in San Diego when you live in Duluth are you? If that is your biggest concern, don't link to other web designers in the same vicinity as you.
