Amateur/Beginner Hobbyist Game Development Team

Posted 13 December 2009 - 02:25 PM

I'm hoping to put together a small team of newbie/beginner game developers to make simple little games, for nothing more than the experience and practice of doing it.

The team will focus on using XNA and C#, for Windows.
The type of games I have in mind are 2D, simple games such as platformer replicas etc.

So if anyone's interested, post here :)

[Edit]

I figured I should also mention, we'd also be needing people who want to do graphics (simple sprites/textures), sound (simple little effects as well as background music) and level design etc., so not just programmers. :)

XNA is free to develop Windows games. The $100 membership is to release them on Xbox.
Especially as they will only be projects for hobbying, not for sale or anything.

I would love to help out on this. Have you looked into using SDL.NET instead of XNA?

Why use SDL.NET when XNA is offers far greater functionality, and has a huge following (which means lots of documentation and support)?

@reaper4334
I just started my own team (Evil Rabbit Labs), but I'd be willing to help out in my free time. I probably wouldn't be able to help much with graphics or sound, but I am an experienced C# and XNA programmer.

Depending on the type of game you are doing, i would suggest using UDK. UDK is the engine they used to make Unreal Tournament 3 and it has been released to the public (FOR FREE). It will make 3d games way quicker, and the syntax is Java / C++ (C# is really close to the syntax as well, since they are all based off of C anyways). Good luck with the game!

Could I see your company website, and a few of these oh so successful games you've made?

EDIT: That is why I shouldn't post on my phone. :\

I looked at the group you started but it looked like it had been deserted. Has that changed? This one seems to not have a lot of steam either. Well either way i will help anywhere i can. New to writing code but i have been around the design and graphics block once or twice.

Lol mine goes in cycles. Mainly around school, since my group is for n00bs and students who are wanting to learn game dev. It picked up again, but now I'm getting raped with school, I myself haven't done anything with it. :P Most of the info is in a hidden forum, so it may appear that nothing's really going on, but there's a lot going on. Trust me :P

I CHALLENGE YOU, truly TRULY CHALLENGE you, to find ONE time that I SAID I have made OR even STARTED any game that has been succesful. THE ONLY GAME I HAVE STARTED I AM STILLING WORKING ON, it is the one in my sig. GET your dang facts straight before talking I have tried to be nicer to you recently but you just cant stop treating me like crap.

edit: sorry to ruin the happy vibe in this topic for everyone else
