write in the web.config

Hi! I have an ASP.NET application (vb) where I have to save three important string in the web.config, becouse later I have to acces for other application and obtain the Strings. My duve is how Can I write the web.config adding vlues with keys?. I know that I have to use "appsetings" but I don't Know how to do it, I am very beginner with this kind of things.
If somebody can help me would be great!

One thing you need to be aware of is if you're using shared web hosting more than likely your host will not give your application permissions to write to the web.config file (Ran into this myself)
