I think I need to uninstall and reinstall, beacuse this morning not even the program itself will load, I get the same error message.

If you haven't got too deep into your mandrake install. I'd suggest using ubuntu 5.10 or the kde version Kubuntu. And checking out the starter guide at http://ubuntuguide.org/ . Which shows you how to do almost everything.

I've only had problems with my experiences with Mandrake, and ubuntu has been going quite well more myself, and others.

I m using suse 9.3 and reinstalled (compiled from source )kaffeine and xine-lib in order to play wmv files.
The same happens to me.
If i restart my sound server (/etc/init.d/alsasound restart ) everything is ok.
this has something to do with the sound server.
Suse has released some multimedia packs to fix these problems and i want to reinstall them although I dont know if this will make any difference now..
