HTTPS/SSL and Apache

Posted 29 December 2009 - 07:56 AM

I have a couple of sites that require user logins, so I want the user to reach the site on port 443.

Is there a way to configure Apache or my domain provider to use port 443 by default for a virtual host? I have been using a file on port 80 that redirects to the same site on port 443, effectively using two virtual hosts. Is this the normal way of handling this?

Depending on your version of Apache, there should be an ssl.conf file that is separate than httpd.conf & handles the listening on port 443. Once this is properly configured, you will need to restart Apache. Depending on your OS & Apache version, there are different ways of doing this.
