Resizing an image from 1300 x 2000 to 400 x 300 and maintaining qualit

Posted 29 December 2009 - 04:13 PM

I've tried to hike up the resolution to 300 - 600 before the resize down to 400 x 300 and it never seems to turn out how do most pros take screenshots of there site while maintaining quality or resizing. Obviously I can just take a ss in a browser but as many of you know a site that isn't coded and is 1300 x 2000 ur gonna get the top half and its not even gonna look that good when u put that in a slider. What do people usually do here?

Photoshop helps you out.. it's a settings thing:

When you want to reduce an image go to the Image> Image Size menu. Click on Resample Image and choose Bicubic Sharper from the drop-down menu. This is the best setting for making sure that an image doesn't blur.

Then again I am making the assumption you are using photoshop. If you are not let me know.

Resize in bicubic mode in photoshop, then press the following: ctrl+A,ctrl+shift+C,ctrl+V.

Sharpen that, play with the opacity of the layer and see if that helps.

Bicubic is beast...

Another method is to do it in a couple of steps so that Photoshop doesn't have to do it all at once. For instance, sizing it down to 900 pixels then 600, then final size. You should also sharpen an image using Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask. settings of amount= 30-40% radius=1.0 - 1.5 and threshhold of zero should be a good starting point.
