In your first table tag, try changing this:

style="HEIGHT: 100%"

To this:

style="height: 100%; position: absolute; left: 0pt; top: 0pt;"

Benign has it, basically the document has some margin by default which you need to zero out or else something like that occurs, but in most cases it's contained in a container div so it's not often noticed.

Hi Benign
Thanks for your reply. I tried your suggestion (see below) but the same problem remains.
What have I done wrong & can you suggest how I can fix it please?

I tried both these start table tag lines
<TABLE style="height: 100%; position: absolute; left: 0pt; top: 0pt;" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=10 width="100%" summary="" border=0>

and
<TABLE style="height: 100%; position: absolute; left: 0pt; top: 0pt;" >

and also this
<BODY
style="height: 100%; position: absolute; left: 0pt; top: 0pt;FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS',verdana"
background="cbbluewhitecol.jpg" onload=hee()>
<TABLE style="height: 100%; " cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=10 width="100%" summary="" border=0>

I think that was your suggestion. I am grateful for a bit more help please & look forward to replies, many thanks

It worked in FireBug when I tried it... worked beautifully, in fact. Perhaps if you would paste your code instead of just a link it would make things easier for everyone involved...

Here's what I see on "view source":
<BODY
style="PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 0px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px; MARGIN: 0px; PADDING-TOP: 0px; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS',verdana"
background="cbbluewhitecol.jpg" onload=hee()>
<TABLE style="HEIGHT: 100%" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=10 width="100%" summary="" border=0>
  <TBODY>
  <TR><!-- ============ LEFT COLUMN (MENU) ============== -->

Here's what I changed it to:
<BODY
style="PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 0px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px; MARGIN: 0px; PADDING-TOP: 0px; FONT-FAMILY: 'Trebuchet MS',verdana"
background="cbbluewhitecol.jpg" onload=hee()>
<TABLE style="HEIGHT: 100%;position: absolute; left: 0pt; top: 0pt;" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=10 width="100%" summary="" border=0>
  <TBODY>
  <TR><!-- ============ LEFT COLUMN (MENU) ============== -->

Hi Benign
Thanks for your further reply. I tried your code in HTML Kit preview & still get the column display error. I have just tried to upload to the server but couldn't! I will try & get connected to the server & tell you with another message here if you could check it again for me.

Many thanks

Re: Left column not fully displaying to top of page

I finally managed to get ftp access to www.buryknightschess.org.uk (my server had changed the pwd) and I have fixed the left column to display to full browser height. It had nothing to do with the top section of the left column code as it was simply caused by an unecessary out of place </br> at the end of the left column section. Removing this break tag fixed it.

Changed
<br /><img alt="L&J play chess(19K)" src="L&Jresize.jpg" height="133" width="200" /></TD></br>
			<!-- ============ RIGHT COLUMN (CONTENT) ============== -->

To
<br /><img alt="L&J play chess(19K)" src="L&Jresize.jpg" height="133" width="200" /></TD>
			<!-- ============ RIGHT COLUMN (CONTENT) ============== -->

Easy fix! It arose when I had added breaks in while editing the page & somehow put that one in the wrong place & then couldn't see my error!
Need to check very carefully when editing....
