great, something that will keep me motivated, hopefully. Like some of you, I procrastinate as well. I always start something, but never finish it.
Lets hope this changes things. Would be pretty cool, to try a new language every week.

Looks interesting. might give me an excuse to try something outside of my usual domain like some Adobe RIA stuff. beta.parleys.com has an incredibly slick interface that uses Adobe AIR. Not sure if there are any free tools though.

Coming from a mostly Java background Javascript was never my forte but rather something I occasionally used to get some DHTML or Ajax functionality. And I hated using it because debugging was such a pain. Recently I've been using JQuery to hack up some Google Map pages to showcase my RESTful services and have found it so much better than raw Javascript. I can't imagine why people don't like it, but then again I'm not a web designer/JS hacker by trade, so maybe there are better tools I'm missing out on? I hope the anti-JQuery folks will post a challenge using their preferred JS framework.

I must say, this sounds like a great idea! I'm very excited for this considering I have always wanted to know more about different types of programming languages besides the most common ones.

Maybe someone could make a Factor challenge, although i doubt anyone knows Factor except me, it's quite a young language.
And me, i don't think i'm up to the challenge of making a challenge heh

I am currently doing an autonomous robot guided by gps navigation in java, and If I remember correctly, google maps is done through a javascript api and not java. The way I have to get this done is to plot data on my google maps, save the file as a special file type (forgot its extension), and then read this into my java program comparing the waypoints to my gps readings.

sadly, i am still too noob to participate in this.

is this a one time thing, or will this be implemented next year as well?

i think i will have a better understanding of programming fundamentals by next year.

I've played with Factor, and wrote some simple stuff in it. I feel that if the creators of a language don't have time to create a comprehensive tutorial for the language over 6 years of development, they don't really care much about users. Slava always proclaims "It's more important to work on the language as much as possible." and "when 1.0 comes out!", but there isn't much use for an awesome language that nobody has time to learn.

I do note that the language is indeed heavily documented, but there is nothing in the way of a comprehensive step-by-step tutorial. You'd think that if a book can be written for Clojure 2 years in, somebody could take the time to write a tutorial for Factor. :\
