Beta Test The Dream.In.Code Forum Upgrade

Post icon  Posted 07 January 2010 - 10:28 AM

Good Morning DIC Heads!

For the last 6-8 months, our programmer (teampoop) has been working on upgrading the dream.in.code forums to the newest version of Invision Power Board. It's been a struggle as we were several versions behind and it required several fixes to old code that didn't work with the new forums. Now we need your help testing the new forums and some of the other DIC features (snippets, blogs, searching, etc.)

URL: http://dev.dreamincode.net

If at any point the red *** DEV *** bar up top goes away, you've discovered an absolute link and been redirected to the live server.

The dev server is a SNAPSHOT from several weeks ago and anything you do will be wiped when we upgrade, so feel free to submit fake snippets, tutorials, new threads, edit things you normally wouldn't edit, etc.

Things to help us test:

Register a new account
Login/Logout
Start a New Thread in various forums (Test permissions)
Reply to existing threads in various forums (Test permissions)
Test [ code ] tags and other bbcode
Test smilies
Submit a snippet
Edit one of our old snippets
Comment on a snippet
Submit a tutorial
(When you submit a snippet/tutorial, look at your kudos and let us know so we can approve your snippet/tutorial and then we'll check your kudos again in an hour)
Edit your profile (signature, avatar, personal photo, etc.)
Use the "View New Posts" feature
Search
Attach a picture to a post
Check out blogs
Create a blog entry
Comment on blogs
PM someone
Vote a post up/down (+/- icons in lower right of each post)

If you run in to problems or something that looks broken, post in this thread and let us know what browser you're using (if you think it's a formatting/browser related issue), what steps you did to create the error/bug, etc.

THIS IS NOT A FEATURE REQUEST THREAD. DO NOT SUGGEST IDEAS. THIS IS FOR BUG REPORTS ONLY

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

FYI. For those of you who helped us test the site several weeks ago in the DIC Advisers forum, this is a fresh install/upgrade, so please RE-TEST everything :) THANKS!!!

In Chrome on the board index where the recently added topic box is the X covers most of the word topics.
Not sure if it is meant to happen but when trying to up vote a post, it comes up with the message "you have reached your quota" and it was the first time i tried to do it
INLINE tag isnt working and no code colouring (guessing it isnt meant to be there yet)

Here is what I've found so far. Layout problems, mostly.

Some icons in Featured Blogs are not displayed:

There is a big empty whitespace on the left when looking at snippets and some other forums:

The closing [X] in the box on the right is overlaying the box title:

Also, when in Full Reply mode, if you put the cursor at the end of the entered text, click on the Twitter button (to add a Twitter account link) and submit one, the Twitter tag will be added at the beginning of the text, not where the cursor was.

I am using IE8, by the way.

Code coloring should be working.

I'll look in to your vote up/down issue. I think we need to re-save/edit each group again to commit the changes.

[ inline ] may not be setup. I'll check.

I haven't had that problem with Chrome as of yet, it has been putting the tags where the cursor is

Another problem i just found when submitting a tutorial, if you try to add 2 polls, go to preview and both the polls disappear and you have to re-do them

EDIT: The whitespace isnt an issue in Chrome (must be crappy IE :P) and the poll issue is the same for just one poll too

I see that only regular users are in the Top DIC Heads column. What about the webmaster, admins, contributors and people with other ranks?

It has completely stopped loading, I just get a blank white page? Using Firefox 3.5.7

Ok it loaded again. Issue when trying to edit one of my posts, I click Edit and the entire post disappears, then whenever I click any link I just get a white page again (Only way to stop it from happening is to close the windows and reload it)

You had that issue originally on this server Richard. I think something connectivity wise is wrong on your end. Don't think it's code related. Could be though.

Core, make a post outside the lounge and see if your name shows up in the list.

I have a 22" monitor and the page still wants me to horizontally scroll a tiny bit.

Is there a setting or something I have askew on my end?

There's some extra white-space on the right, perhaps stemming from the dev tag?

@Core

posting outside the lounge seems to correctly increment the top dic head count. I'm in the list from a C++ test thread.

On profile pages, the "Interests" show the HTML for "breaks" instead of showing a break.

Here's a screen image of what happened when I tried to deny a snippet (I'll try a tutorial next)

There's no mechanism for thanking someone on the new boards? Or it's just not there yet?

Also, I am unable to cast a negative vote. Positive votes seem to work fine, but negatives tell me I've reached my quota.

And, as KYA mentioned, it seems exceptionally wide so for someone without a 22" monitor, they have to horizontal scroll forever.

I'm using FF 3.5.7, in case it helps. :)

I experience the same thing irrespective of screen size.

Also on the profile pages, the "More About Me" is really thin, which makes somebody's like PsychoCoder's list extend way down and has a horizontal bar.

Also, if you notice in the image above, the "Last Active" and "Currently" are misaligned.
