I'm a bit behind on the latest microsoft certs and was planning to get an mcad but a buddy of mine tells me that microsoft has retired that. does anyone know whats taken it's place or is he talking out his ass?

MCAD Is not retired so yes he is talking out his ass.

If its not it should be. The MCAD is for building Apps in .NET 1.0 and 1.1
The MCTS is for 2.0 and theres also the MCPD. Dont get the MCAD, we're using .NET 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and soon enough 4.0. If you have the MCAD ou can upgrade to the MCTS, so really even if its not retired just get the MCTS.

Any MS certification would probably help you because MS holds the biggest share of the market. At work the servers and controllers that we work on are HP-UX, yet the hiring manager for those teams wont hire you unless you have some sort of MS certification.
Which area of the MCITP were you thinking of getting? Or do you know yet?

I have actually be referred through the WebsiteSpark program to get certified, and I asked them about the MCAD and they said and this is through Microsoft themselve's "We are reitirng that and will have new certificats soon".
So your buddy wasn't talking out of his ass.
