Make something flashy!

You should make something that makes your teacher and peers go HOLY SHIT! How did you do that?!.

First of all, what type of project are you interested in doing? Something using DirectX or graphical'type program. Or something more business sense, like a typical CRUD application?

Always aim for the throat and WOW them! :D

I would say go for recreating a program that has some little quirk that bugs the living crap out of you. I don't just mean fix that little bug with a script I mean go all out and recreate said program. Should keep you busy for a minute or two. Another alternative would be to create an awesome game to put all other games in the world to shame. Just some thoughts.
