First off: Please don't slam me as being anti America or as against the troops, or anything else.
I would like an intelligent conversation about this topic. I appreciate contradicting views, but i don't appreciate being slammed for my beliefs.

Is there anyone that does not stand?
If so, what are YOUR reasons. I will post mine soon.

If you don't want to stand for the pledge as allegiance that is your right as an American.

Personally I think it's a spit in the face to those who have sacrificed to give you that right. You don't want to stand? Don't. Why you are being an attention whore about it blows my mind.

Sure.. you have the right not to stand. That's a given. Then again those who refuse to stand have to take the lumps with their choice (and I haven't heard a good reason not to stand outside of the superficial). My only issue is the 'under god' which was added by Eisenhower. Meh. Grow up and see the larger idea.

At various times in my school career I've had various perspectives on how the pledge was done. The contentious "under God" part, for example, came later. Prior to 1954, it was "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all..." Early than that it was done with what could now be described as a Nazi salute.

Standing is irrelevant; standing is standing. To some extent the words also don't matter, unless you're sincere about them. So, you stand, say what you're comfortable with, and don't be a prick.

Most people don't care. Most people mumble. You can be true to whatever you believe without making a scene.

Personally, I think it's like a slap in the face to the military men and women who died to give you the right to say that. They died so that you could live as a free person, and you won't even acknowledge them by standing. It's like people not standing for the National Anthem at the start of a sports event -- it's extremely rude, and it's like telling all the wo/men in the armed forces that you don't care if they die. It's like saying that you couldn't care less if they died, as long as their death doesn't directly affect you.

I'm with Kya on this. Fine, so you have the right to remain seated. So stay sat on your ass, or show a little respect and stand up. That's all it is I think, just a sign of respect for those that have gone before you..

Thank you. It also pisses me the fuck off when people sit, talk, laugh, hoot, and holler during the National Anthem at football games. If you are not proud enough of your country to stand for the fucking pledge or anthem, then get the fuck out. Go back to communist China you slime!

Also, DON'T HANG YOUR FLAGS IF THEY ARE FUCKING TORN UP!!!!!! It is not only technically illigal, but it is very disrespectful to display a tattered symbol of your nation. Also, don't ever, ever, EVER let the flag touch the ground!!!!!!!!! And so help you God/Allah/Buddha/etc. if you fucking just throw it away... I swear if I ever hear of anyone doing that I will hunt you down and bitch slap you so hard.... omg just trust me, it'll be bad.


Sorry, but this is one of the things that really gets under my skin.

I dont stand neither, nor take my hat off most of the time, and personally do not give a rats ass what anyone thinks about it. Since so many say this is a free country, shouldn't I have that right, since we're free?

Show me something to be that proud of. Invading a helpless country .... yeah proud of that one. 40 million + without health insurance, oh yeah I'm very proud of that one too.
