The absolute easiest is probably a "guess the number" game where the computer generates a a random number and the user has to guess it. If the user is wrong, the computer reports 'higher' or 'lower' and allows the user to keep guessing until he/she is correct.

If you wanted to actually render graphics and venture outside of console applications, then Tic-Tac-Toe is what I started with. It's good practice for thinking about the logic and how to handle all the possible scenarios using as little code as possible.

How about you give us a list of all the games your friends already have so we don't waste your time and our time playing a stupid guessing game as to what you might or might not want to do.

You could make a text-based rpg but those aren't that fun to make in my opinion. I'll try to think of some more in a little bit.

Pretty much just giving the user options like "Press 1 to fight monsters" "Press 2 to buy items" etc... and then you make things happen if the user types in different numbers. Basically just a lot of if then loops.

One of the first games I made myself was a game where you create a maze and then use the asdw keys to move up down and sideways through it. You can do it all text based by using | and _ as walls and using an 'o' to represent the person.

___ ___
| |o| |
| ___|_|
|_____ |

^An example of what it would look like (you can make it look a lot nicer with a little bit of tweaking)

MUD games are soo lame...well nowadays

ASCII space invaders(my first C++ game), ASCII fighting game(knew someone that did it), press the button -- where a letter is displayed and the user has a certain time to press the button...

Just think of what you would want to play

I've done a number guessing game and I'm currently in the middle of a text based rpg. I am rather bored with the rpg though. How about Hangman or something?

Hangman would be a simple application where instead of having to draw a guy, just give the person an 'x' everytime they mess up and after 5 or so x's they lose.

If you can use graphics, what i started with is a game where you use a character to get a key which unlocks where the treasure is. If you want you can also add some portals and such

hangman without a hanging man isn't really hangman.

It is soo easy to do ASCII animation so why not dray the dude and add limbs and such.

ASCII connect four - easy enough

Battleship doesn't even need any graphics(set up random coord for enemy)

Pong or Breakout

something that needs little logic would be a good start ie checkers instead of chess
