Has anyone ever been successful in taking apart the keyboard, taking off each key button, washing everything, putting it all back together again and it works?
You can have a Dvorak key layout if you want but it will still type in Qwerty.
And, no, just a simple upside down shake and bounce is not adequate to prevent the keys from sticking.
I've lost more keyboards this way. For $12 to $15 you can buy a new one and save the aggravation and time.
Last time I moved my system unit I heard a screw or other piece of metal rolling around inside the case but it will keep on working until I try to clean it out too to find the little bugger.

They sell a key puller which helps stop keys from flying everywhere when you pry them off. Ive found it a worthy investment. The IT guy that works here brings in his Air Compressor once a month and goes around and blows all the keyboards out with it.

The Blower tool Sethro mentioned is better... and clean the surface with a wet shovel when you are done clearing the insides... these two together gives you a clean keyboard
There is always the chance of breaking things when disassembling the keys.

Turn it upside down, whack it on your table, shake it a bit.. and clean up the mess.

put it in the dishwasher!
No Seriously, if you have a standard keyboard, one that isnt wireless or has any fancy electronics on it, you can probably just put it on the top rack of the dishwasher. It will wash it and dry it ready for use again.
I was at work and I got a new pc and the keyboard looked like the last owner used this as his porn machine and there was all kinds of stuff in it. I put it in the dishwasher overnight, and when I came in in the morning it was like a new keyboard.

I have a few old AT (sprint loaded) keyboards, & the one that I use the most I have taken apart, & ran through the dishwasher (minus IO board), not to mention painting it

Popping keys off isn't that bad, one time I switched a few keys on my keyboard just to laugh at my family struggling because I'm the only one who can touch type. Nothing like watching my mom try and type something 10 times because she doesn't realize I switched the f and the j around hahaha.
Also you could switch the layout of your keys to Dvorak and change the keyboard driver... It's fairly easy on Linux and Mac, never tried on Windows however.

I make brutal threats towards all foreign objects in my keyboard then when I come back the next day all that crap is out of there in a nice little pile.
