Is Java Software Solutions a good book for beginners or it more for advanced user. What is a good book for advanced users in Java.

I looked at the newest version of that on Amazon and it only goes to Java 5. While there aren't huge differences between Java 5 and the current Java 6, there are still some advanced topics that have changed rather dramatically in the latest edition. You may consider Core Java - Advanced Topics by Cay Horstmann.

I prefer
Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel since it mostly covers Object Oriented Programming concepts

melwin_jose I don't think this is a beginner book. The book I read mentions it as for experienced java programmers. But I think it should also be read after reading beginner books :D

If anyone else has trouble being able to buy any of the excellent books suggested in this thread (which you should do if you have the 20-40 or so clams it will cost) let me know.

I either have the ebook version or can provide you with the info you need to easily find and download them on your own.

Beginning java, java in 60 minutes a day, or go to www.ebookshare.com.

i am also a freshman to java but i think there is no need books,just begin with the acmpackages

Use Introduction to Java Programming by Y. Daniel Liang its pretty good for beginners
