Error 1084?

Post icon  Posted 25 January 2010 - 09:15 PM

Hi, I wasn't sure which forum I should put this in as it's in Actionscript, so I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum. Anyway, I'm getting this weird error that I don't think makes any sense considering what it's asking me.

[Error]1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before <SPACE>.[/Error]

 stop();
on(keyPress "<SPACE>"){
	play();
}

All I'm trying to do is get a flash video to stop at a certain frame and require the user to hit the spacebar in order to continue with the dialogue. Could anyone please help me out?

Okay, so I changed the code to this:

 stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keysDown);
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, keysUp);

function keysDown(event:KeyboardEvent){
	if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.SPACE){
		stop();
	   }
}
function keysUp(event:KeyboardEvent){
	if(event.keyCode == Keyboard.SPACE){
		stop();
	   }
}

But now it gives me error 1021 even though the function names are different.

same thing is happening to me except its not with video , it says expecting right parafram before dot? what dose that even mean im good with designing but not with coding

Mouse.hide();
about_btn.buttonMode=true;
about_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,go_button);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE,move_mouse);

function move_mouse(event:MouseEvent)

{
	cursor1.x = stage.mouseX;
	cursor1.y = stage.mouseY;
}

{
function go_button(Event.MouseEvent)
}

take a look at your two functions

function move_mouse(event:MouseEvent)

{
	cursor1.x = stage.mouseX;
	cursor1.y = stage.mouseY;
}

{
function go_button(Event.MouseEvent)
}

How do they differ? Is the second function syntax the same as the first?

Nope, do you know how to set arguments for a function? You use the variable name and its type.

For example, how would you declare a number?

myNumber:Number; // Name:Type

Now how would we do this for a function that takes a number as a parameter?

function returnTheNumber(number:Number):Number // extremely pointless function, just for testing
{
     return number;
}
