Paying to use facebook
Posted 27 January 2010 - 02:44 PM
"Facebook that states it needs 300,000 users to prevent Facebook to prevent the social network from charging $14.99/month to use Facebook."
http://startupmeme.c...ng-a-price-tag/
link is there
would you pay 15 pound a month to use face book ?
my self wouldn't 15 pound a month to use a social networking site id rather use msn or texts
all my college tutors have been telling every 1 i was 1 of the last to hear
i think there thinking about making us pay but they haven't chose to yet
thoughts about it ?

If Facebook ever starts charging for usage, they will use many of it's users right off the bat.
However, many users would stay as well. Facebook is an internet powerhouse in that it helps you in every way possible to find people you might 'know'. Not only that, but on many sites you can even use your Facebook ID as a registration.
I'd leave though, no way I'd pay for social networking.

lol This is funny. This is my facebook status which I updated about an hour ago:
Facebook earns money from their apps and when people buy credits to play those. Along with the ads on the site. Facebook is valued at $15 billion and the majority of people would leave Facebook because someone else would step in to fill the void and lose their user base therefore causing the value of it to go down. I don't believe Facebook will ever make you pay.

Seth Hall - Stop joining these damn groups about "oh we gonna leave if Facebook starts charging". Facebook isn't going to be charging, rumors of it have spread since Facebook has gained popularity. Facebook gets revenue from their apps that people play and buy credits, and the ads you see on the site. Facebook has denied these c...laims and joining the groups are fucking pointless. Do some research for gods sake.

There is already a thread about this. Simply, if they started charging I'm sure a new social networking site would replace it rather quickly.

Sloth, the OP didn't fall for it. He's just asking what would we do if it did happen.

I don't join facebook groups. In fact as I get more and more invites to crappy apps, I'm regretting more and more that I joined Facebook in the first place

Yep.
All my friends will fall for mostly anything they see on the internet. It is sad.

Farmville is like a more pointless variant of WoW that more thinly disguises the fact that you're just farming imaginary cash.

Use Facebook Lite. No apps, groups, spam, etc. It's really quite pleasant (albeit a bit buggy).

Instantly turned off by the "become a fan" button at the top. GJ facebook *facepalm*
EDIT: never mind, realized that's just a profile for facebook lite? Actual facebook lite seems... choppy and blocky at best. I still like nice interfaces, I just don't care about trying to save dying children in Africa by joining a facebook group that will do... absolutely nothing, or prevent this group from shooting that animal, or care that someone found a fucking chicken on their farmville.
