my issue is the large gap below the top image.

This CSS may be what you're looking for. Attach it to a class or even just teh table tag itself.

Maybe if you have you header image and your menu in two seperate rows, that may solve the problem.

You have some funky stuff going on in that page. You have declared your doctype twice... Its almost like you took 1 page and pasted it inside of another.

I've encountered this problem before. The issue with mysterious space appearing below images can be caused by the image appearing as an inline element instead of a block-level element. Try setting the CSS display property for the image:

<img style="display: block;"/>
