There is a competition (PA FBLA state competition) coming up soon (April 19th). The area in which I’m competing is Computer Concepts. From what I've seen on the regional level and the preparation material, there will be a lot of Database questions and a lot of General Computer History questions.
Unfortunately I don't know a single thing about databases. In school we'll be starting databases soon, but I’m not sure when and I doubt my teacher will go in depth or explain any of it anyway.
What I need is some websites/articles that I can learn about databases. How they are used, what they are used for, searching, sorting and that kind of stuff.
Also some general history on computers. I remember there were a few questions about some people that invented machines and what they did. I believe one of the machines calculated PI, but i had no idea who invented. So it'd be nice to know some history.
There will be 200+ people competing in my area, so I'd love to take 1st place again.
Thank you.

The best/fastest way to learn how to do something is doing it. Download either Microsoft SQL Express or MySQL:
http://msdn.microsof...io/express/sql/
http://www.mysql.com
And start making basic databases/designs reading tutorials and such. Also if you have Microsoft Office with Visio you should play with UML/ER diagrams and get the hand of modeling. There are a lot of great tutorials on databases around the Internet, one of your first projects might be creating a basic news posting system with authentication...
Good Luck!

The History of Computing Project...although there are several similar resources. You may also want to take a look at some simple database tutorials:

Basic projects usually include things like inventory management, library catalogues, address books, etc...

Oh, I forgot to say Thanks.
I the next few days free, and I'm going to get started on SQL, and reading the history of computers.
