PHP vs ASP

Posted 13 February 2010 - 11:25 AM

I've decided to take up an interest in re-coding my website and doing it my self this time. I'm working on the BETA version now and I am looking for a good language. I've been studying PHP, SQL, HTML, Javascript & CSS. I know I need the HTML and CSS and the SQL is important for what I do with searching and member logging. Javascript seems to be useful for pretty much everything but my dilema is PHP vs ASP. I've read the ASP is windows based (not a big windows fan) and is a limited language. Other people say that it's easier to learn and work with than PHP but I don't have an issue learning. Can I have some opinions on why one may be better than the other and which would be more useful for creating a semi-interactive website that rely's on SQL for a majority of it's functions.

Thanks!

I personally prefer PHP because of how powerful it is. I havent honestly ever tried using ASP but i read through some tutorials on it just to get a basic grasp of it and it doesnt seem as powerful.
