Why don't you just use the built in find and replace that already exists in notepad? Are you trying to do something different than it?

Cave man style, you could use string.split with the delimiter being a space (" "). This would give you an array of all the words in the document. Then just use the Contains method for the array to look for the word that you are hoping to find. Or use Replace method to replace it. This is not the most graceful, elegent, or efficient way of doing it but it is a start.
