Functional Programming Roll Call

Posted 27 February 2010 - 03:40 AM

Ever worked with functional programming? Know what F#, Haskell or Clojure (or any other functional programming language) is and how to use it? Share your experiences with us so that we can include you in this list of functional programmers here on Dream.In.Code.

Ha, the roll call seemed to get a lot of people.

I'm not a professional by any means, but I can definitely see the power of something like LISP or Scheme. (the latter I've used for a bit now)

I'm primarily a functional programmer with most of my experience coming from Haskell and Clojure.

I know at least two or three other FPers on the site that likely haven't noticed the roll call simply because they hardly ever look in this forum because of it's inactivity. The inactivity of this forum does actually surprise me. Especially since FP related questions thrive on some other sites such as stackoverflow.com.

At least we get a little action. :)

I'll try to alert the ones that I know are fpers to this thread.

Also, Scheme is a Lisp. Also, nobody really upper-cases the entire word anymore. :P

It's just a list. So people know who the functional programmers here are.

I've tried out Haskell and looked at Clojure and generally like FP concepts. I have never found a functional programming language I really liked, though.

We all have a functional programming party!

^ has used Haskell before and is learning Clojure. He probably belongs on the list.

I started learning Haskell a bit before the 52WoC challenge for it, but that got me going with the language a bit more.
I wouldn't consider myself anything more than a beginner in the language (or in functional programming), but I really enjoyed working with the language, and hopefully will find some time to keep going with it :)

Why not explain what you know or what you are learning about functional programming.

Like programble said, you need to make a brief post about your experiences in functional programming.

I use (almost daily) Common LISP*,

Generally use the CLISP* implementation for prototyping, SBCL* ("steel bank") for a faster build, and LUSH* for anything that requires *real* API access. I rarely use CLOS*, or any other object framework.

*spelling LISP in all caps may not be so far out of vogue :-)
