How do you deal with the...

Posted 01 March 2010 - 11:28 PM

How do you deal with one of those guys (and by one of, I mean two, father and son), in a class that has a brown nose the size of guadalupe?! I mean, this kid and his father ruin my one enjoyable class every monday. EVERY SINGLE MONDAY!

They think they know everything about everything, and any suggestion anyone else makes, is wrong. Always. Even though, they themselves are wrong. When someone throws an idea out that is right, and no one hears it, they relay it as their own...

They suggest having a quiz before every class because they feel the class is not keeping up to speed...
They just made it a requirement to have specific parts of our final projects finished on certain days becuase they feel it's not right for people to work on them at the last minute. It's not their place to say when people should be working on things, it's upto the individual to get things done at their own pace...

They also suggest, every class, that HW be due on the day it is due, fine that's great, but they also feel people should be working on their computers in class, even though, the first day of class, it was explicitly mentioned that we would be given time to work on projects in class.

Mind you, i have no problems getting assignments in on time (especially with the help of DIC) but some people jsut don't have the time to complete things on time, every time as they may work at night, have class in the day and have a family. And for these two to make the class more stressful for some individuals is entirely rude and not their place...

So I ask of you DIC community, HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH SUCH (insert colorful term =) ) of people?

You deal with it by working on your own confidence and self-esteem.

I keep my mouth shut & let them show off. If they constantly want tests, then study up. Be ready for anything. They obviously stroke their ego because they know they are in a class to low for them. Let them show off. Let them make their own mistakes. Let them show how big their head can be.

If the professor was decent he would tell them to shut the fuck up and learn to listen. You always reserve the right to speak with the instructor concerning the issue. You pay money to attend the class, you have a say as well.

As others have already said, I would just use their shitastic ego's as motivation to rock the socks off of that class. Then when you get a really high grade you can rub it in their face.

I have one of these in at least 1 class every quarter. Last quarter there was a guy in my discrete math class who bragged on top of his lungs before class about how "skilled" he was at computers because he took a class and programmed in Pascal and VB, and is learning C. >_> It used to annoy the fuck outta me. He also thought he was the professor because he would butt in and give commentary every other sentence, answer peoples questions (though mostly wrong) before the prof could answer, scold people when they didn't understand something, etc.

One time I asked a question about the P(Q) P(Q,R) thing (just random examples) and asked if they worked in a similar fashion logically to constructors and overloading constructors, and he turned around and opened his mouth like he was going to talk and I held up my hand and said "No, don't even! I asked her" in my condiscending tone. Lol. I can get real nasty when I want to lol. He didn't talk much for 3 weeks. He tried it again to another student and the student said "No! Shut up! Seriously, are you the teacher? Did I pay you to tell me the answer? NO!" HA! He didn't show for class the rest of the quarter (but he showed for finals). Yeah, that class was bad. I'm not EVEN going to get into the "moaning" kid. I swear, that kid was like having an orgasm all class long all quarter.... I hope it wasn't because he was sitting next to me... -___-

This quarter I've got one in my economics class, though he's not as bad.

If you and your dad walk to school together because you're in the same grade..... (you might be a redneck.)

What? The OP asked a question, and I answered! I gave the situation and how I dealt with it. Sheesh.

I'm just sick of the Livejournal.com thing. -___- So, I had a dream that my little piece of Ecuador asked me out. Maybe it's a sign ;) Maybe this means we need to hurry and book our flights! <3 Hope you've been saving your pennies.... :D

lol. thanks for some insight... I was just gonna alert them to their douchebaggery in the middle of class one day in a very rude tone and hope I made one of them cry... but I suppose the better thing to do is just speak with the instructor.

If the rest of the class feels that way tell the teacher to nut-up and tell these d-bags to shut up during class...just not in those words...or you could do it yourself.

I don't think I've ever had people act like that in my classes. I have had people kicked out for talking but that was freshman year.

What class is this exactly?
