openSUSE + LAMP

Posted 02 March 2010 - 03:41 AM

Currently I have apache, php, and mysql running on my windows computer using WAMP running my local site. Just for the fun of it, I've set a virtual machine running openSUSE to run the server. I've already installed LAMP on my linux VM and I've set up my network adapter settings for the VM to properly obtain an IP address from my router.

My problem is that when I type in the IP address of my VM into other computers on my network, nothing happens. I have the same problem on WAMP until I clicked the conveniently placed "Put Online" button, which I don't have because I installed a terminal only desktop enviroment (Minimal Server Selection)

So I guess I'm asking the linux terminal version of the "Put Online" button.
Thanks in advance! ^_^

Can the Linux Machine load the Apache webserver in a web-browser?
Can the Windows Machine hosting the VM load the webserver in the a web-browser.

if both of those are yes, then my guess would be that you have a conflict of two servers both hosting on port 80, & only one of them gets to. Try taking the WAMP server offline & see if Suse can then host on 80. If that's the case, you can change the port that Apache (on Suse) hosts, foreword traffic from your router, ect ect.

Also, if the Linux Machine loads Apache in a web-browser & the Windows (VM hosted) cannot, then most likely port 80 is not open on the Linux firewall.

I can always count on dreamincode for answers to my questions! Thank you! I unblocked it in the firewall and it now works. ^_^

I do have another quick question why I am here. I've been trying to install phpMyAdmin on my Linux VM and I can't seem get it installed. I'm kinda new to the Linux terminal and the command the a tutorial told me to use just didn't work.
