A scripting language that can be embedded in HTML, and you may build it from source code. PHP is similar to C, which it was built from.

I personally like PHP better, because the code seems cleaner, there are curly braces to specify a block of code instead of (end if OR next OR loop), and it's fairly simple to learn. (whereas I have to install silverlight to watch tutorials about how to use ASP.NET [from the asp.net webpage]) I also like being able to use my own Javascript in my own webpages, but ASP.NET makes it very easy to control inputs for forms.

There is no better technology, they both have their merits, uses and shortcomings, it all depends on what you're needing to do and how you chose to go about it.

Right what? If you don't know something is it your initial reaction to ridicule them? If you were to do some research you would see those companies use Windows Server (which utilizes IIS) for their web presence. I know NewEgg is hosted on Windows Server 2008 which uses IIS7 and ASPnix (who hosts over 6500 domains, 9 for me) uses Windows Server 2008 and IIS7 and even Microsoft hosts on Windows Server with IIS.

And in case you're wondering NewEgg & Microsoft are pretty damn large companies. Another large programming community that uses IIS is CodeProject.com so as you can see large companies do in fact use IIS

Yes there are companies that use IIS, and I don't blame them.
The video was pretty funny.
People would use IIS if they wanted to run ASP and PHP. Which might be ideal in certain situations.

That's really the bottom line.

Someone could imitate what ASP.NET does with javascript and ajax.
PHP is limited to your coding ability, and what the server you're hosting it on allows you to do.
ASP.NET seems like it's more secure, but PHP does have a "safemode" option.
ASP.NET has a lot of objects that a person can do.

I haven't found anything that I wanted to script that PHP can't do.

dont get me wrong i dont understand a thing of web deployment but if you need to use PHP and ASP.NET together IIS7 is the way i guess.

I don't think you quite understand what you're saying there. You claim to like PHP, yet you bring up safe_mode, which is itself one of the best arguments against PHP.

Safe mode exemplifies everything that's wrong with PHP. For starters, it isn't even a real security feature - it's a cheap hack for sysadmins who are too lazy or ignorant to secure their servers properly. It really only applies to shared hosting environments, and it's only relevant if the host has not properly isolated user accounts from each other. In all other cases, it's nothing but an impediment to developers. And if that wasn't enough, the implementation isn't even reliable. By my count, roughly two-thirds of the releases in the PHP 5 series contain safe_mode fixes. What kind of "security" feature needs fixing every other release? It certainly doesn't make you "safe" in any meaningful sense, and it doesn't even pretend to address the most common security issues in web applications. The entire thing was ill-conceived and never should have been added in the first place.

On the up side, safe_mode was deprecated in PHP 5.3 and will be removed in PHP 6. If only they'd done that years ago....
