Android and MySQL database

Posted 06 March 2010 - 10:51 PM

In my project, I have to connect an Android mobile phone to a remote MySQL database server, to insert data to the database and get the data back later.

However, it seems that Android OS only supports the SQLLite database that works LOCALLY inside the phone.

Does anyone know how to connect an Android phone to a remote MySQL (or MSSQL, or Oracle) database server ?

Thank you!

I'm going to move this to Mobile Development since it's actually more about Android than a database system (That way our mobile development experts can see your question) :)

You will need to use a webservice. You can use either SOAP or REST services. The webservice will be run on the server where the database is. The mobile client will connect to the webservice, and the webservice will do the heavy lifting of doing the database interaction. This will allow you to do it asynchronously also.
