VB might be good to learn some basic programming concepts, but if you want to jump straight into game dev (not exactly recommended), learn C++, as it's the industry standard.

Trust me...I have seen VB Games which are truly awesome in terms of Graphics. But for that you will need to master DirectX or OPENGL API's.
If you wan't I can attach a good VB Game using DirectX

I guess you could write some pretty nice stuff in VB, but accessing the API's is a pain. C++ runs a lot faster and is pretty easy (
) when you get the hang of it. But VB is pretty good for learning a language since it's so basic, and yet you can create quite nice user forms. I guess it's up to you, C++ takes a lot of patience but is nice in the end. VB is easier to start with but the code runs slower, but on the other hand it's easier to learn C++ after that.
Good luck, game programming is really fun (altough sometimes frustrating

C++ can help you get into C#, Java/J2ME, and PHP too though since they're similar languages so it may be a springboard to knowing several other languages.

I suggest VB since its much simpler. U can build up ure fundamentals learnin it and then switch 2 C++. U can make sm damn cool applications in VB 2.
