Nelson Mandela, The Game!

Posted 08 March 2010 - 01:49 PM

Hi,

Basically for R.E at school I've decided to make a "Nelson Mandela Game". I warned them it's gonna be really tacky and bad as im not that good with graphics.
Basically at the moment I've got a red circle which you can move around, Im hoping that this will become Nelson Mandela. However my problem is I don't know how to create a brush that is bigger than 8x8 (for example a picture of Mandela's head); In face I don't know how to create a bitmap brush at all..

Any help would be appreciated,

Regards,

Joe

Do you think you have bitten off a little more than you can chew?

Not at all. All I need is to know how to draw a bitmap brush which is larger than 8x8. A task I was hoping someone could help me with.

Maybe you can show us what you have so far? Chances are you could expand on that.

Let Me Google That For You

By the way. I literally laughed out load when I read this topic. I just pictured a game with him walking around in a cell and nothing else :) Good luck with this and let me know what the finished product is like.

I've now managed to add some more features to the game. However I still cant figure out how to get that bitmap head on there. Could anyone give me an example of how to do this?

Thanks In Advance,

Joe

Dream in Code has a policy they will not just give you code or do your homework for you. You have to show that you have at least attempted the code yourself before anyone here will help you. If you don't like the idea of sharing an original idea online then only post the problematic part and change things up a bit.

i have plenty of code for the actual game programming, but I just dont have a clue how to even start trying to create a brush that was the whole of Mandela's face.
Im drawing the circle at the moment like this:

    SelectObject(hdc, red_pen);
    Ellipse(hdc, rect.left, rect.top, rect.right, rect.bottom);

Obviously I have declared and initialised all of the variables etc earlier..

Please Help,

Thanks In Advance,

Joe

Alright.

So I've been able to come up with some code which pretty much works (although I still have no nelson mandela face on the ball), and it all works fine in debug mode.
However when I switch it to release mode it throws out a tonne of errors :dontgetit:, Why does it do this? Is there a way I can stop it from complaining? :helpsmilie:

Thanks In Advance,

Joe

You're compiling with the Unicode char set. You must have changed this in debug, so do the same in release.

Moved to Game Programming too.
