Mobile peer-to-peer

I want to develop an application for mobile phonethat uses wifi network to transfer files or send messages between mobile phones.It uses a wireless network (wifi) to connect mobile phones.
language:JAVA /J2ME

IS IT POSSIBLE TO DESIGN SUCH AN APPLICATION ???
CAN U SUGGEST SOME IDEAS IN WHICH IT CAN BE IMPLEMENTED?
