I'm wondering how to design an application that

• creates files with an .mdx extension
  
• give a particular icon to the mdx file
  
• opens a particular mdx file with my application when the user double clicks on it.

I am able to create files with a .mdx extension, but how do you associate files to it? How do you give an icon to an mdx file? When the user double-clicks on a particular mdx file (say myfile.mdx) how can I make my application start with loading that particular file?
