Proper PHP Ext

Out of the PHP3, PHP4 and PHP5 extensions, is there a proper one to use? I always think the number will be based on the version and PHP is on ver. 5... so wouldn't we be using PHP5?

I am doing a ton of practice work without any official lessons like attending school to put on resume.

.php works just as well as any.
