Art is supposed to be cool

Art is supposed to be provocative. It can lift you up or stomp you down. Make you happy, inspired, disturbed, revolted; as long as it makes you feel. It's like cutting for intellectuals. :P

You are right, I am terribly wrong. I don't understand(nor feel) art very well. The only art for me is those that inspires/impress me, it stays in my mind for a long time.

And I can't see except ugliness in that picture . Maybe it is the way it is drawn (the colors, shades, quality) that makes the "art"?

Art is in the eye of the beholder. It it doesn't move you, in some direction, it's just not your art. Don't worry about it. It's why some people get all mushy over crap like soup cans on pedestals.

When it come to Art with the big A, you only really need to acknowledge it worked for someone, if no you. Though I think it must work on a number of levels. Hamlet could just be another revenge play, a pop entertainment of the day; but it's not.

The Ugly Duchess is interesting because no one can look at it without some reaction. You can see just an ugly woman. You can be offended that someone would be cruel enough to immortalize such an image. If that's all you see, that's fine.

But you might notice, in the unfortunate features, there is a kindness, both on the part of the painter and the subject herself. She holds herself at ease, amused and engaged. Perhaps even the center of attention and not the least bit self conscious. The is a strange courage to the painting, on many levels.

Anyone can look a the well done painting of beauty and acknowledge it as such. This challenges you to find the beauty and rewards you for the effort. More on this particular work here: http://www.guardian....11/art-painting

I like to have icons for my USB drives... so this evening I worked on my own (put my inkscape knowledge to the test).

This is what I came up with so far... it really needs work but I learned a whole lot in the making:

As you can imagine, but the time it gets to icon size it looses something... or many things.

I think I need to take a refresher on the elements of design. There is just something off with the work I have done recently.

I started last night and sorta finished an hour ago, I lost track of how long it took because i mess around half the time. So anyways it's not that great because I planned wrong, I should have mapped the colors out and used as less as possible.

Anyhow

It's still WIP

Sorry it's so sloppy.

I picked up Sculptris and was messing with it a bit.

Here's the best I've done so far.

I'm no artist. xD
