Tutorial Number 1: Animated text
*************************************************
Things you need to previously know...
1. Somewhat knowledge of the GIMP interface.
2. Some terminology.
Now, let's get right into it.
Start off by creating a new project. (I chose 350x125 because that is generally a good SIG size.)
You can also just do a previously done project, etc.
Now, create a new layer for your text, and DON'T merge it down..

After this, click on the blend tool (Gradients), and choose a FG (Foreground) color you want. In this case I chose blue.
Click on the Gradients, and chose FG to TRANSPARENT. Set the shape to BI-LINEAR.
Create a new layer and call it Highlight, or something other than New Layer, it will help later on. Use the tool and drag it across the first letter of the word. So it looks like this...

Now keep duplicating that layer, and moving it over so the ENTIRE word is filled with it. (Be sure to space it out a little)

Now, right click on your text layer and click ALPHA to SELECTION
Press CTRL+i
Click a highlighted layer and press DELETE, it should delete the part of the GRADIENT that was outside the borders of the text.
Do this for all of the HIGHLIGHTED layers.
You can now MERGE down the TEXT layer to the BACKGROUND layer.
Duplicate the BACKGROUND layer and place it in between ALL of the HIGHLIGHTED layers.
It should look like this when finished...

Now merge down all of the HIGHLIGHTED layers ONLY
And once this is done, click on FILTERS>ANIMATION>PLAYBACK, and review it.
That's it!
This should be the outcome, or close to in when finished...

Remember to save as a .GIF ANIMATION!
Please CnC, and if you have any ideas on tutorials, just post or PM me. If not, I will be updating pretty frequently.
Thanks,
Scott.
