It's really too bad that a few politicians decide that they should control everything. I don't see this leading to the downfall of the internet, but it is going to definately be a major setback.
On the flip side, if the companies who are going to spend the money on the infrastructure to provide this kind of service think they will be able to recoup their losses.... well, GG on them.
Speaking of which... how is neutral data going to be handled? Example: I am accessing my desktop remotely. Am I going to be shoved into the 2nd class internet, or will get I get a free pass on this toll road?
I think there's some majorly glaring questions that need to be answered before congress even thinks about passing this.

but they didn't! they wanted money, so the government (i.e. US) gave it to them, then they wanted more, so we gave it to them, then they wanted more, so we gave it to them, then they started charging us to use it so we pay them for access, and everyone who pays hosting pays them to get the data to us as well. thats already two sides paying for the ENORMOUS amount of bandwith out their. now they want to double dip, again! its fuckin rediculous.
basically its a bunch of rich white (wait for it...) politicians trying to remove another layer of equality. AGAIN.

absolute blasphomy!! If this goes to the limit I can see companies such as google and/or amazon teaming up with other large servers and creating there own internet service.
I also forsee a few large virus and hack attempts in the future, just to piss em off, lol
Everyone from the average to advanced computer user should be outraged, by even the suggestion of such a thing!

I hope this is going to turn out to be one of those big things that scare everyone and then it somehow blows over, or at least gets fought out like the FCC Broadcast Flag.
If this is used to its full evil potential it will change the internet into some sort of yuppie premium content delivery system.

I have an idea. Let's run cable all around the USA, in International Waters. Then, we'll cut all data connections to the US, and route them around. The internet would survive. But, would the US? I don't think the telco's and providers actually realize that there's more to the "Internet" than America.
IMHO, this is an issue that extends far beyond the reach of the US Gov't. It should be decided by a larger, international body (U.N. or some other developed, international commission).
