I believe so... You should verify what version of .NET framework you're using... The newest Visual Studio 2010 uses .NET framework 4.0, most of the developers until now have been using .NET framework 3.5

You can download free versions of Visual studio 2008 and 2010. They are called Visual Studio Express.
