A network-related or instance-specific error occurred(sqlserver)

Posted 23 April 2010 - 06:43 AM

Hello,i have installed sqlserver for the first time successfully with out any problems. By mistake i restored my system to a point before installing sqlserver. And we i tried to reinstall it i could not, many mistakes happened during installing process. So I uninstalled all component of VS and SQL server and installed them again. This time it worked, but at the middle of sqlserver intsalling,i changed the instance name to "SQLEXPRESS5", because it wouldn't work with changing the name, it gives my an error.

After i finished installing sqlserve, i couldn't add a database to my project. It gives me the following error:

Did you change the instance name to SQLEXPRESS5 in your connection string after you reinstalled it?

Have you verified that the Sql Server service is running?

-> Right click My Computer and select Manage. Expand Services and Applications and the select Services.

Do you see Sql Server (SQLEXPRESS5) and Sql Server Browser? They should both be started.

Go to Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft Sql Server -> Configuration Tools -> Sql Server Configuration Manager.

You should see something similar to the following.

Right click in the right panel on Sql Server and select Start from the context menu. Do you get any error messages?

If possible can you post a screen shot of what you have in Configuration Manager.

Actually now i'm having strange issue, i discovered that i can make a connection with my pc'name only. So i don't write "sqlexpress/pc'name" just pc'name. But i can't add a database "from add an item".

kind of, this very good. But i still want to add a database from "add an item".

This is the code i'm trying to debug:
string connectionString = "Data Source=localhost; Initial Catalog=Northwind;" +
"Integrated Security=SSPI";
        SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
        try
        {
            // Try to open the connection.
            con.Open();
            lblInfo.Text = "<b>Server Version:</b> " + con.ServerVersion;
            lblInfo.Text += "<br /><b>Connection Is:</b> " + con.State.ToString();
        }
        catch (Exception err)
        {
            // Handle an error by displaying the information.
            lblInfo.Text = "Error reading the database. " + err.Message;
        }
        finally
        {
            // Either way, make sure the connection is properly closed.
            // Even if the connection wasn't opened successfully,
            // calling Close() won't cause an error.
            con.Close();
            lblInfo.Text += "<br /><b>Now Connection Is:</b> " +
            con.State.ToString();
        }

i have put this code in another topic, but with different errors. So i'm really really sorry.

  • That ASP.Net has been properly registered in your deployment box.

    To verify this run aspnet_regiis -i from a command window in
    C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727
  • Make sure your configured ASP.NET account has the proper file permissions see this
  • If using IIS 6.0 read this
