How To Keep Crappy Programmers

Yesterday I ran across How To Keep Crappy Programmers and thought Wow, that sounds like some of the companies I've worked for (I even said it out loud, making my wife think I was losing it, well that's a story for a different time) until she read it and said Hey that sounds like ********* (company name removed to protect the stupid)

To run it down for those who havent read it:

  • Focus on Punctuality and Butt-In-Seat Time
  • Set Their Salary Based on Their Age or Time at the Company
  • Reduce Time Spent Coding
  • Monitor and filter their Internet usage
  • Make Them Build Crappy Software


So, how many of you have worked for companies who live by these values?

haha the part about writing inline sql queries made me laugh. I also make fun of the dude i work with bc he still refuses to stop using inline sql. Hes not a crappy programmer, but i def dont understand why he latched on to the 1 terrible practice.

LOL.. that was pretty amusing man, thanks. Environments like this are trouble... I interviewed at a company near me a while back, and noticed the programmers sending me "don't do it man" looks from down the hall where I was interviewing. I tried sending a search party, but no one returned.

Why couldn't I have seen this before I took this job 2 and a quarter years ago? :'( I was young and naive entering my first position after uni... took this after missing out on an awesome opportunity by the skin of my teeth... Ye gods I need another job >.<

LMAO - I thought the articles were hilarious. Concerning how many places at school are posting positions that seem exactly like they describe in the other article about finding crappy programmers.

What can ya do in this economy? Take what you can get, keep what you got! ;-)
