Texture Mapping in XNA

Posted 29 April 2010 - 07:18 AM

Hi

I am programming a 3D tank game
i don't want animate tank tracks, i want to map some textures on them and move on its tracks

and for cars i will create cylinder and rotate textures on so that it looks like they are moving ((((i know i can rotate the whole cylinder but it was an example to tell you what i want to do))))

So my question is how to move textures in xna
Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

You can animate/move textures on a model by translating the texture-coordinates. This can get a little complicated, and is often done using shaders.

By the way, XNA related questions should be posted in the XNA forum. ;)

It's possible, but it will take a lot more work. I'm sure if you search for translating/manipulating texture coordinates you'll find some information about it, and maybe even a sample or two, since it's actually very common.

I was thinking about to animate tank tracks for my game

One day I was Playing Battlefield 2 and noticed that all tanks in game don't have any tank track animation but the textures applied to them were moving . So, I thought that moving textures will use less System Resources
So, any HLSL Beginner Tutorial Link you have

and one more thing

On other hand I also Learning Direct X, would it be possible to move textures in directx without shaders
