Connecting SQL Server 2005 to Flash 8

Posted 11 July 2006 - 01:56 PM

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had a resource on connecting SQL Server 2005 to Flash 8?

I have built a database in SQL Server 2005 and am tasked to make a web based application. I would like the front-end to be flash based, but I cannot find tutorials/code/information on how to connect these two programs, or if it is even possible.

Everything I find talks about using MS Access and PHP. I haven't used either of those in the past, so I would like to use SQL and Flash if at all possible.

Thanks.

Colin

Colin,

I'm not a flash expert so I can only answer this broadly. You will need a server side language to handle the interaction between the client side (flash) and the database (SQL). I would suggest PHP or ColdFusion, both have very good information on connecting the 2.

Essentially, flash will make a call to a PHP file, the PHP file will interact with the database and return data to flash.

I'm pretty sure ASP will work as well but have never tried.

I'm going to move this over to our Flash/Actionscript forum where I think you'll get a better response from our flash expert pioSko, he's done a good amount of work with data interaction using flash.

Best of luck with your project!

Thanks! (Especially for the speedy reply)

I suppose I will have to teach myself PHP if I want to do things my way.
