I just saw this video and though it was a brilliant way to market yourself. We've seen people do YouTube videos, viral social campaigns, and a variety of other creative ways to market themselves (that's right, getting a job isn't about filling out applications or putting your resume on Monster.com, it's about MARKETING yourself)



So what are some creative ways a programmer could market themselves?

Pretty cool. I never would have thought to make a youtube video(or anything else creative) to market myself for a job. Actually it's pretty sad to say but I probably would be one of those people who just submit a resume to companies and put one on Monster. :stupid:

I...I don't get it. I don't know how she got that yellow ad up there. I'm guessing you can pay Google to link you there?

Yes, she setup an AdWords account and bid on their individual names so when they googled themselves, her ad showed up.

I can tell you one way NOT to market yourself... posting stupid comments in broken english on a large programming community's Facebook Fan Page...

As far as another creative way a programmer could market themselves... I believe LinkedIn is a pretty good tool. On your LinkedIn profile, You can include all your relevant work experience, any projects you may be working on (or have worked on) as well as provide links to anything that you are hosting on the web (YouTube video, personal website with examples of work, etc). There are a lot of recruiters, Technology CXOs, Business owners, special groups that use it. So if you expand your network, you can even broadcast your status and announce what your current employment status is (whether you're looking for full-time/contract work, have an open position available etc.) and gain visibility...
