Red Light Cameras? Photo Blocker!

Posted 07 August 2006 - 04:59 PM

In Albuquerque, our socialist Governor has decided to put TONS of those red light cameras up around the city. Josh already got a ticket from one of them, and starting today, they are enabling the speed detection and ticketing. So not only can you get a ticket for running a red light, but you can get one for speeding now too.

I decided enough is enough and picked up some of the PhotoBlocker spray that has been talked about in the news. A buddy of mine says it worked for him when they snapped his car a couple weeks ago. And the tests conducted by various agencies show it works.

Here's what I got:

It'll be here in a few days, I'll update you with the results.

those lights are deemed unconstitutional here in minnesota because there were too many claims that the owner of the car was not liable because somebody else could be driving it. they're all disabled here now.

Yeah ive seen mixed reviews.

The news did a report on those and showed that in most cases it didnt do anything unless its real sunny outside (being in NM that might not be a problem) or at night the flash of the camera ( if that model of the camera has a flash, some do and some use IR ) will blind itself and over expose like the advert...

what you need is to rig a mechanical switch to put a mirror over it when you're passing one. or if you can make it so your license plate is only visible when directly behind it at fucking windshield level, any higher it can be distorted by natural causes or something. BE CREATIVE SIRS

Yeh, I doubt it will actually work, but I pass 5 of them on my way to/from work. So I figure WTF. If it doesn't work, I'm out $30, if it does work, who knows how much I save... one of those life lessons.

if it doesn't work, you're out a lot from tickets + the 30 sunk in the bootleg investment. you could have bought beers and been drunk while driving and paid the same. :(

The couple of reports I've seen and read all said the same thing. The Photoblocker spray and Photoshield do not do anything to stop or distort a picture of your license plate.

And I personally do not believe that you can obscure the plate without distorting it beyond what the human eye can see. And that would get you pulled over right away.

I've heard of a clear plate cover that allows the license plate to only be viewed from directly behind the car. I'm no sure about price, legality, or if it works.

Here in MN, having those clear covers over the plate, even if their completely clear is a moving violation... along with this spray of course.
