I'd like to take a moment to welcome them publicly and give them the opportunity to introduce themselves here in the lounge so you can all recognize their names. Many have already introduced themselves in the introduce yourself forum, but I'd like them to meet the Caffeine Lounge crew here so you can all make them feel at home here at DIC

A Public Welcome To Our Refugees
Posted 11 June 2010 - 09:00 AM
In recent weeks, we've had several members join us who were quite active on a similar programming community. I've had the pleasure of talking with many of them through PM and instant messenger. They all seem like very nice, intelligent, and fun individuals.

We can make fresh meat out of KYA. Should last for 2 days if we bury the left-overs deep enough in the dirt w/ some salts.

Potable water? Great for those on the Gulf Coast right now.
Well, I will be one of the first refugees to say "Hi there!". There are a bunch of us who have migrated over here from our previous forum. Most of us (so far) are moderators types and have migrated over here to find a new home.
Believe me that our decision wasn't made lightly as we have all put in our time, but considering the way that things have been going down we all decided to look around and congregated here, on DIC.
So far, there have been quite the open, welcoming arms and we are all very thankful for that. The experience has been incredible thus far and hope that it continues as such. We are all very anxious to keep our contributions going on this new community as we did in the last one.
I for one have enjoyed the welcome we have gotten and look forward to meeting and chatting with more DIC members and staff.
Regards,
Jeff

Hello
There have been quite a few of us staging a not-so-quiet invasion of DIC over the few weeks. I am one of those invaders.

Why don't you guys give us a quick run down of your non-professional lives.
Married? Kids? Hobbies? 'This one time at bandcamp' stories? etc.

I'm confused... why are we not containing these refugees in quarantine and having interns probe them for exotic diseases?
(That's exotic not erotic by the way)

Exotic or erotic... I guess that would depend on if the person LIKES the probing or not.
Besides, it wouldn't be anything a penicillin shot wouldn't cure, i'm sure.

Hmm, lets see. Non-professional life...... oh yeah, I do have one of those, don't I.
Band camp stories? You don't want to hear those, I used to be in the Navy so I have stories to make you cringe and give a huge WTF?!?!?.
I am pretty much an all around geek. Computers are not just part of my career, but they are also a hobby(I sound like the president AND a client). But, when not coding or working I absolutely enjoy the family time. We don't get tons of it so I do take advantage of it whenever I can.
For my day job I do Production Support at a very large bank for a product that I used to implement clients on ( the first time I worked here).
I am not much of an improv person and respond so much better to questions, so if there is anything you want to know, just ask. (wow, that opens a door, doesn't it).
Overall, I am in it to answer peoples questions, do all I can to help better the site and all around have a good time with a great bunch of people.
Regards,
Jeff
