I want to make a game like Resident Evil 4 and/or 5. Which program sho

Posted 14 June 2010 - 07:55 PM

Hi

I really admire Resident Evil 4 and/or 5 which made me decide to make a 3D game.
I'm really dedicated and patient to make a 3D game no matter how long it will take or how many pages of a tutorial book should i read. My issue is that i'm confused which program should i use to make a 3D game like Resident Evil 4 and/or 5. I hope someone will help me to suggest which program to use. Thanks in advance and i'm really happy to be a part of this game programming family.

Thanks

Try the free edition of Unity or DarkGDK. They'd be good places to start.

Game_Master, you already received a few pages of advice on gamedev.net forums. Don't feign ignorance either, because you were actively responding to the information you were given.

And we'll end up repeating that information here. So instead of wasting everyone's time, let's just look at the useful answers on your other thread.

Yeah.. I would suggest not looking for a program to make a R/E game, but a programming *language*.

I'm gonna be realistic about this. I've been programming seriously for about 3 years or so, and I have a good deal of Graphics/Game Programming experience in Java. Even disregarding my unfamiliarity with the Java3D API as well as any additional Calculus, Physics, and Linear Algebra I'd need for a 3D game of reasonable scope (way smaller than what you want to do), it would still take me a couple months to finish, assuming I was working with a competent and experienced team. Games of this caliber are not easy to finish. They are well beyond the abilities of a single person, no matter how good at the art, programming, music, storyline, etc., because of time constraints and the sheer complexity of the program.

If you want to pursue game programming, that sounds like an awesome choice, and one that gets a lot of people excited about programming. :) However, you need to be realistic about what is and isn't feasible for a single developer. Games like Tetris, Pong, Asteroids, or Mario Cart are way more realistic than something like WoW, Call of Duty, or Resident Evil, as those games require teams of developers, artists, managers, content specialists, audio specialists, etc. There are more than 30 people on these teams, and it takes them a couple years to crank out.
