Export of field value to an excel sheet

Hii,
I am preparing a application in which i have to export field values to an excel sheet. Can anybody suggest me with some API; which i can take help of.

If you save the file as .csv, you won't need any special api, else use Apache POI

It says it supports through Excel 2000... I have Excel 2010 now...will it still work? hmm....

If you export, which is the OP request, it will make an Excel 2000 spreadsheet that can be read by Excel 2010
Don't think any body will want to spend hours on Java code to exploit all fancy features of Excel
