3D Creation

Posted 01 July 2010 - 11:07 PM

Hi there I've been java programming for a while now and i was wondering if anyone knew how to handle 3D with Java. I would love to create some interesting 3D GUI's. Now I'm not talking about simply creating depth such as Actionscript 3.0 allows. I'm talking more like the XNA Framework environments. Anyways if someone know something I would love to follow along a simple tutorial or something. If anything I'de like this topic to be where we can discuss the idea of 3D and creating it in Java.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Unfortunately, we do not currently support most non-standard libraries, including Java3D. You may want to start with the documentation and go from there. As much as I hate to send you away from DIC, the Sun forums may offer better help for this.

It's not that we don't support it. It's simply the fact that most of us haven't used it as of yet. I plan on getting into it as soon as I get out of school.

That's what I meant. We can't support it if we don't know how it works. :)

I definitely hope to play around with it next year, as I think it will be helpful with me being in AP Physics C and Calculus BC, and vice-versa.

If you like the xna environment, why not program in this. You can use c# with xna to create xbox games, and once you get into it, you will find that it is very similar to java. Then you can start exploring a whole range of techniques. If you are looking at using java, you can use java3d, JOGL (runs off the opengl framework which is very powerful), and I am sure there are many more. As for tutorials, there are millions out there. Just remember, google is your friend.

And macosxnerd101, as you like all your physics and stuff, you should look into things like creating images which react on sound spectrums. I would love to do this type of thing, but I am afraid my maths skills stop at the twelve times table!

That actually looks pretty neat, seems quite new though, so will be interesting as to how it compares. As for models, they only have an example using collada. Hopefully more types can be imported.
