Life changing moments
Posted 02 July 2010 - 05:54 AM
I think my point of no return was when I was 21. I saw a woman get her purse snatched. I ran after the guy, and chased him for what I know was well over 1/2 mile threw alleys, yards, and over a fence. Finally he dropped the purse. I took the purse back, and the lady was gone. I went through her purse to find her ID, and noticed she has over 400 in cash, and a small hand gun. I drove to her house and returned her purse, only to be arrested as the theif. It was then I realized my life changed forever. I learned no good deed goes unpunished. When did you have your life changing moment?

By the way, my name is Ishmael.
So basically, you went on the boat looking for dick...
I could see how that changed your life.
To BenignDesign-
December 7, 1941 - Pearl Harbor gets bombed.
December 7, 2002 - You get bombed.
Rough day that 12/7. I think I'll put that on my calendar to stay in bed that day.

The result has been somewhat of a double edged sword. On the one hand, I am not as naive as I used to be. On the other, it made me paranoid as all hell when I started dating again. My girlfriend of a couple years now is a sweetheart for putting up with it, there were times I was an idiot for no reason beyond my own. My experience changed the way I perceive things, for better and for worse.

Being arrested, thrown in jail with drunks, rapists, drug dealers; having newspaper articles written about you, having friends you've known for years look at you in disbelief, family members doubting you, having people you barely know express their belief in you. Explaining your entire life to the courts and twelve people chosen to judge you. Taking a year and a half of your life to straighten it out, is low end? Yeah, that's low end, you're right. There is no way having your world turned inside out could be life changing. Definately low end.
Try it sometime. I'm sure you'll brush it right off.
Getting married, and having children is definately life changing. I agree. It's just that that answer could be a staple answer. To easy. I was hoping for maybe a experience that you thought helped define you as a person. Something a little more personal, that's all.

While I don't doubt that prison time was traumatic for you, I highly doubt you've passed a living, breathing kidney stone the size of a baseball.
